PBS NewsHour was the most advanced and complex project that IEG has taken on to-date. The PBS NewsHour production team depended on a mix of custom and off-the shelf content management systems on multiple servers to manage their websites and video assets. Our developers combined these functions into a single admin interface using WordPress to manage the website content, plus a custom plugin to support video asset management and ingest into both YouTube and PBS’s proprietary COVE video platform. Our data migration experts imported and preserved over 60,000 posts and videos from a mix of legacy databases representing more than a decade of daily news production into a single system.
The resulting system much improved the ease-of-use for a team of several content producers who simultaneously are creating many posts and videos throughout the daily news cycle. The new platform presents all of this content in a new and responsive design, maximizes SEO and social sharing, and has proven capable of handling much higher traffic than before. This is particularly critical as PBS NewsHour, one of the most trusted news sources in the US, gears up for the election cycle.
